Why Asheville is a Great Place to Work and Live

asheville area residential and commercial contracting services

This has been a great year for Legacy Contracting. As 2016 draws to a close, we are reflecting on why we have chosen Asheville and western North Carolina as our primary location for performing residential and commercial contracting and restoration services. In this article, we will discuss five quick things that make Asheville a great place to live and work.

1) Asheville’s Growing Residential Contracting Needs

Since the 1990s, Asheville has grown steadily into the eleventh largest city in North Carolina. Asheville is the largest city in western North Carolina, with a metropolitan area of nearly half of a million people. Buncombe county has grown by about a third since 1990 to a little over a quarter of a million people.

As Asheville and surrounding areas continue to grow, our area’s residential contracting needs expand. New residents are finding that it is often more cost effective to build their own homes than to purchase and existing one. When choosing a residential contractor in western North Carolina, it is important to choose a company with experience tackling the unique challenges presented by our beautiful terrain.

2) Asheville’s Growing Commercial Contracting Needs

Our residential increase parallels our economic growth. Asheville boasts in 11 employers employing over 1,000 people, including:

  • Mission Health System
  • Buncombe County School system
  • Ingles Markets Incorporated
  • Wal-Mart
  • The Biltmore Company

However, 96% of Asheville’s businesses employ less than 50 people. The city is known for its restaurants, breweries, shops, and other small businesses that make it a tourist destination for thousands of people every year. If you are opening the business of your dreams in 2017, contact a professional for your contracting and design needs.

3) Asheville’s Unique and Difficult Terrain

As experienced contractors in Buncombe, Henderson, and surrounding counties, we have performed contracting, grading, and demolition services in difficult and diverse terrain. Western North Carolina is beautiful, but construction can be treacherous. We recommend hiring experienced, professional contractors for any project in the Asheville area.

4) Asheville’s Cultural Scene

As the city grows, we enjoy taking part in the great cultural opportunities and activities the city offers. Residents and visitors travel to Asheville for many reasons:

  • More restaurants and breweries than you can count
  • The Biltmore House and grounds
  • Shopping downtown, the Asheville Mall, and the Asheville Outlets
  • Music concerts at the Orange Peel
  • The Grove Park Inn
  • UNC Asheville, museums and other education

There is never a shortage of activities and cultural engagements in the Asheville area.

5) Asheville’s Outdoor Activities

Downtown Asheville sits the valley between the Blue Ridge, Black, and Smokey Mountains. Mile-high peaks are visible from many parts of the city. We enjoy taking full advantage of the outdoor activities available in western North Carolina:

  • Hiking: There are thousands of hiking trails in our area, from easy greenway loops, to backwoods backpacking adventures.
  • Mountain Biking: Asheville offers some of the best mountain biking east of the Mississippi. Bent Creek and Biltmore have over a hundred miles of trails here in the city, and Dupont and Tsali are just a short drive away.
  • Fishing: Fast flowing rivers and streams present the great opportunities for fly fishing in the state.
  • Great Views: Whether you go north or south on the parkway, within an hour of the city you can experience mile-high views, enormous waterfalls, and all of the natural wonder that has made our area famous.
